Fantastic love story. Ending was sad, yet I liked the way the characters were all brought "together" in the end. Sweet that the love of her life saves her son through his death.

Nicholas Sparks is right on target in this book. Tackling an ever growing problem of domestic violence and the lengths that an abuser will go to continue the abuse. I loved the way Nicholas Sparks grabbed the attention of the reader from start to finish. This is a story of loss, fear, love and faith.

A Marine who ended his tours in Iraq made it back safely because of a picture decided to look for the woman in the photo.  He finds her in N. Carolina. She is leary [sic] of him because her brother was a marine and died.  He doesn't tell her about the photo. Her Grandma like him immediately. Her son like him too along with his dog Zeus.  Many things happen along the way. He falls in love with her.  Her ex is completely against him.  She falls in love with him.  They triumph over challenges and secrets that they both share along the way.  In the end there is a tragedy & her ex dies.  They stay together & learn how to move on with life.
